Fallout: New Vegas Developer Revealing A New RPG Soon

Masiv / Nov 29, 2018

We now know what one of the more than 10 game announcements coming at The Game Awards next week will be. Show organizer Geoff Keighley revealed today that Fallout: New Vegas 2 was among other games that Eternity developer Obsidian will reveal during the awards show.

As announced previously, the title will be published by Rockstar Games' parent company Take-Two Interactive's new indie publishing company Private Division. Microsoft recently acquired Obsidian, but the developer's new game will still be published by Private Division. It remains to be seen how Microsoft may be involved.

The Obsidian website now features a pop-up that displays a number of interesting teasers. According to Kotaku's Jason Schreier, the new game is being worked on by two Fallout 1's designers, Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky.

Nothing else is known about Obsidian's new RPG, but Keighley confirmed on Twitter that it is not a mobile game. Additionally, Obsidian already confirmed the game won't have any microtransactions.

The Game Awards 2018 takes place on Thursday, December 6 at 8:30PM EST. Airing live from Los Angeles, the 5th annual show celebrates the best video games and esports of the year, and world premieres the most anticipated games of the future. One of the other reveals could be Alien: Blackout for console and PC, but that's all we know so far.

The Game Awards aren’t available on television, but you can stream them from a variety of different services across multiple devices. Last year’s show was streamed on Twitch, YouTube, Facebook Live, Steam, and Mixer, as well as directly through Xbox One and PlayStation.

Here are some of the biggest announcements from The Game Awards 2018.

Epic made a big splash earlier this year when it announced it would be opening a digital storefront for PC and Mac games to compete with Valve’s Steam. Just two days later, that store is now live, with a surprise launch during the Game Awards.

One of the highest-profile trailers to air during the Game Awards officially took the wraps off Far Cry: New Dawn, Ubisoft’s next installment in the open-world series. Set after the events of Far Cry 5, in which villain Joseph Seed sets off a nuclear bomb, New Dawn looks to feature a drastic change in tone and style. The good news is the game is coming soon — be it comes out on February 15th for $39.99 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The RPG legends at Obsidian Entertainment have a new game coming out called The Outer Worlds featuring intergalactic travel and all manner of sci-fi technology. Having become a major force in the genre through Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, Fallout: New Vegas, and Pillars of Eternity, Obsidian has been a carrier of the traditional RPG flame for years now. Now, it looks like The Outer Worlds will be all-new territory for the studio.

Far Cry is another of my soft spots. Didn't get involved until FC3 (tried to go back and play 2, but that wasn't happening) but have played out the rest, and personally, liked FO5 a lot, played it with both accounts. This game, sight unseen will be a day one release purchase for me. Even though FC4 felt a bit stretched, all FC games are a bit repetitive, 4 took it too far. 5 was varied across borders and I loved the aircraft gameplay, and considering this is a play off of the FC5 storyline, anticipate that it will remain as a dynamic of "New Dawn", would love to see better aircraft controls and option of first person aspect. That is my only major request, is improvement in the flight control and visual aspect in a/c. Looking forward to it, and will most likely pre-order as soon as possible. Thanks for the update.
The Outer Worlds, will be a single player open-world RPG set on distant planets where player choice and dialogue play two very important roles.
