After years embracing modern warfare, Call of Duty is revisiting old battlegrounds. Video game publisher Activision Blizzard confirmed Friday the next chapter in the blockbuster video game franchise will take place during World War II, where the series got its start.

Little has been revealed about the game, beyond a teaser image on the Call of Duty website announcing a "worldwide reveal" on April 26.
The earliest Call of Duty video games spent much of the experience recounting events of World War II, until 2007 with the launch of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. That fueled a surge of first-person action games taking place either in modern times or the future.

Electronic Arts' military shooter Battlefield took a similar approach last year with the launch of Battlefield 1. The long-running series ditched modern combat in favor of warfare taking place during World War I. The Call of Duty franchise remains a flagship for Activision. It has been the top selling PC and console game in the U.S. for seven straight years, according to data from NPD Group.

But in February, during its quarterly earnings call, Activision revealed sales of the latest release, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, did not perform as well as projected. "Sales underperformed our expectations, and it's clear that for a portion of our audience, the space setting just didn't resonate," said Activision Blizzard chief operating officer Thomas Tippl during a February earnings call with investors.

The World War II game will be developed by Sledgehammer Games, which worked on 2014's Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

I know that feeling. Activision somehow finds a way to garner our interest, despite how little it might actually be.

The start reminds me of Saving Private Ryan. It also reminded me of a lot of ANZAC wars stories I heard in school. l Looks incredible.
I hope we see some Aussies in the game.

Call of Duty: WW2's Multiplayer will Include a Social Space Called Headquarters

That sounds interesting. I hope that they can make something out of Headquarters that is unique and not just a copy of Destinies Tower.

I don't think that they should have made a zombies game with this one. I feel like it is disrespectful. I know it exists but I haven't read about it. What do you guys think?

Yeah, I feel the disrespect as well. Maybe it's just a side challenge. I think they put it in there because "World at War" had one and it was wildly popular.

Reminder of the WaW zombie mode from 2008.

Yeah there has been a zombie game with all the modern ones. I was thinking though that they could have tried somthing different this time around given the subject matter. The older CoD games used to have respectful footage of real soldiers talking about their time during the war that you could unlock during the game.

That is a great idea. They should have talked to you first.

I like this game, the targeting is a bit off from what one is used to, it seems you must only use the tip of an iron site, and I haven't figured out the drop on the bullets yet, but I like it. It is set up by missions like BF1. Didn't come to the house until around 9PM last night, but I got a rare Saturday off, so I stayed up past my bed time and got the first few missions in. IMO, this is the best COD release since WaW.

I think you can co-op it also, like we used to do MANY MOONS ago with WaW.

I don't know about everyone else, but I am pretty sure JC & Masiv will like this one.

I don't MP unless I am with a prearranged squad of mates, so I can't tell you anything about that and doubt I will do more than play through the game a few times in the future, but gonna go back to AC Origins before I spend a whole lot of time in it unless I find someone to co-op with.

Happy gaming.
