Because I can't play games I've been watching all of my old sci-fi shows. I've watched all of Bab5, most of Enterprise, and DS9. Bought online the newer Star Trek movies and Crusade.

I want to ask about Star Wars: The Force Awakens. While I've seen the 6 main movies I've never gotten into the whole expanded universe thing. So I want to know will I understand this movie or will there be a lot of time where I'm scratching my head?

You should be fine.

It's 30 years after the defeat of the Empire and a new threat has to be faced. Two new characters are caught up in the Resistance's search for the missing Luke Skywalker.

Cool I'll buy it!

I watched Blade Runner 2049 last night, it was pretty good had great visuals and SFX. The story was fairly good but could have been better, while I said it had great visual it also had some that I thought where out of place like the Police station looked very sterile and bland. The characters for the most part for me let the film down there was very little character development beyond K and his relationship with Joi and Wallace (he didn't have much screen time thankfully) was just awful in my opinion, it was as if they where trying to emulate Roy and it just didn't work. Good movie over all but it could have been better character wise and with some better visuals in certain places but for a two and half hour movie it kept me engaged.

I have also been watching a show on Fox over here called a False Flag, it is a lot like 24. Not a great deal of action but very well written and acted thriller set in Israel. I am upto episode five at the minute and it does a very good job of keeping you guessing about who is involved in what and how and who is innocent. Well worth a look it you are interested in a good thiller.

I could see what they were trying to do with Blade Runner 2049,which is basically show a huge deterioration of Earth, from being Cyberpunk to being wastelands,as well as trying to make it more of an action movie since it would be hard to make another character that's as likable as Deckard. However, it was inevitable people would compare BR 2049 to the original Blade Runner, and it doesn't even come close to the brilliance of the original BR, especially artistically and musically , as well as creating likable characters. However, if the movie didn't try to force itself into the BR universe, and used a fresh story unrelated to BR,and was only called 2049,I think it would have received a much better reception.

BR 2049's story felt contrived because of the way it tried to force things relating to Deckard and Rachel into the story, but it had the potential to be something great on it's own without needing to use the name 'Blade Runner',

I agree if it was a standalone movie not related to Blade Runner it likely would have turned out better, I think too many studios feel banking on known movies and shows is safer than trying to create new ones. I wasn't very hopeful for 2049 but it was better than I expected but as you said not nearly the movie Blade Runner is, it was always going to be hard to achieve the combination that movie did with it's visuals, music and atmosphere.

Neil Blomkamp has been putting out some shorts on Steam and youtube for a while now and is currently crowdfunding to get money to turn these short sci-fi horrors into feature length movies. The shorts are amazing but if you have seen District 9 you will no doubt know some gore goes with his work and these shorts are no exception.

I recently watched the new Mummy movie and really enjoyed it, it was a fun movie with more horror in it than the Brendan Fraser version but still as much action. The characters where mostly well done especially The Mummy and Dr.Jekyll and I thought the movie rather surprisingly made you feel sympathy for the antagonist at times. The only negative point to the film for me was Tom Cruise, his character had a duality that I don't think Tom has the acting range to portray as well as another actor could have.

While a lot of people seem to feel this wasn't he best start for the new Universal Monster franchise I think it was a good start with some room for improvement.

Wow, those shorts were great. I would watch those movies gladly. I hope he's successful.
