Microsoft is making a "significant investment" in Fable, though development is still in its "early days." Playground is in the process of hiring staff, "with some 200 people set to work on the game." Microsoft's decision to bring back Fable was reportedly influenced by the success of Horizon Zero Dawn, a single-player action-RPG that has sold nearly 3.5 million copies as of June 2017.

Note: Lionhead Studios, the studio behind the Fable series, closed in 2016 following the troubled development of Fable Legends, a free-to-play multiplayer game. Despite the game's cancellation, Xbox boss Phil Spencer remained optimistic about the future of the franchise, saying "the IP has a lot of places it could go."

"Play is the highest form of research, a chance to discover who we are, or maybe who we want to become." - Albert Einstein
Those who play games know why they do. To discover worlds, to challenge our fingers, and our minds. To connect with friends, or maybe just to escape.
Games are about possibilities, the paths we take as well as the ones we don't.
